I am an interior architecture graduate student in Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and got my BFA degree (interior architecture path) in SAIC. Besides interior design, I have an interest in photography and graphic design. I was born and grew up in Beijing, China. My Chinese cultural background tends to make my design approach more modest. At first glance, it may appear very simple, but a large part of my design effort and intentions are hidden within the detail design and in the non-material aspects of a project. I prefer designs that are simple but timeless; designs that are interesting because of the perfect balance in elements and that are more abstract and poetic. I am particularly inspired by the work of Carlo Scarpa, Tacoa Arquitetos, Govaert & Van Houtte, and Inaqui Carnicero. I also enjoy a lot of the Japanese design.

Architecture is a grand piece of art, where people can learn and get inspired from exploring and interacting with it. Architecture is no longer just about form and function. It is a responsible reaction of the surrounding neighborhood, the society and the planet that holds it. By responsible reaction I mean that architecture should be able to allow many different activities, and not just human activities.
People used to see future architecture as a combination of cold metal and glaring, white, artificial lights. However, I think people now crave a simpler time when we were closer to nature. To compensate for the problems that the industrial obsession has caused, for example the increase in pollution and subsequent global warming, people started to realize the importance of being an active part of a more sustainable urban future. As a future interior architect, my goal is to create efficient spaces that allow people to have agency and an active relationship with nature, people and architecture. Another goal of mine, which is what I consider the over-arching principle of my design philosophy, is to create an atmosphere that can allow for meaningful experiences and a totally sensual awareness.
