This project A PLATE was designed around the urge of the French cultural center Alliance Française de Chicago for being more involved in its neighborhood and creating a stronger sense of community by bringing people together in their courtyard. A PLATE was designed to be a shelter for dining, learning and sharing, taking advantage of Alliance Française’s existing cooking class program and facilities. People who are interested in learning French culture through making French cuisine are invited to share their food with others including the people experiencing homelessness in the area. Food will be served on plates that were brought from different private households, not only as another element to enhance the design but also for personality and fluctuation to dominate the event.
